    This is a fine English Art Pottery MOORCROFT COLUMBINE FLOWERS BOWL CENTERPIECE COMPOTE, made in the Stoke-on-Trent region.
    This vase:
    - is a lovely art pottery work,
    compote bowl
    shaped, with an everted top rim and a raised footed base;
    - is modeled in the Columbine
    Flowers design; the hand painting, décor and glaze are very well done, in the manner of decorative Florian Ware style flowers;
    - is decorated with unctuous enameled glazing and tube line accents. The background color is
    shaded green to
    dark blue. The decorative color palette includes dark blue, plum, and
    yellow, and
    green leaves and vines;
    - the
    underside
    is glazed
    shades
    dark blue
    to green
    ;
    the center and foot rim glazed in off-white;
    - has maker’s marks on the underside of the base including impressed marks of MADE IN ENGLAND, and the signature marks of W. MOORCROFT (for William Moorcroft) POTTER TO H.M. THE QUEEN’, and hand written WM initial in slate blue, which indicates the period circa 1928 to 1949.
    - is unglazed on the underside footed base rim.
    The estimated date is circa
    1928 to 1949.

    This is Moorcroft Art Pottery art pottery. This style includes production techniques whereby enamel glazes and decorations are hand applied and worked in stages upon a fine pottery form, and fired several times in a kiln.
    The Moorcroft factory started in 1913 under the direction of William Moorcroft, an experienced pottery designer and potter. The Moorcroft factory was famous for its famous tube lined, hand-painted art pottery. Moorcroft pottery is often referred to as Florian Ware and flambé ware which included highly developed glaze designs with vibrant colors. Queen Mary was an avid collector and in 1928 granted William and later, his son, Walter a royal warrant. Tubelining is a technique of ceramic decoration. It involves squeezing a thin line of clay body through a nozzle onto the ware being decorated. An alternative term is "slip trailing". The skill takes time to acquire and it is associated with art pottery rather than mass production.
